About our tallow
What is grass-fed tallow?
Grass-fed tallow is rendered fat from animals raised on pasture. It's a rich source of the vitamins and nutrients that support healthy skin, and because it's so close to our own natural oils, it sinks in beautifully.
What is the difference between beef, deer and pig tallow?
Beef tallow has a balanced, soft consistency that makes it ideal as a nourishing, all-purpose moisturiser. Deer tallow is firmer and richer, with a dense texture and matte finish that suits targeted hydration and protection. Pig tallow feels lighter and more fluid, closer to a serum or lotion, so it absorbs fast and finishes weightless.
Where do you source your tallow?
From local farms here on the South Coast. Each product carries a sticker naming the farm its tallow came from, so you always know exactly where it's from.
Using and storing your products
How do I use Healthmade tallow skincare?
Use it just like any other skincare. Warm a small amount between your fingers and massage gently into clean skin, face or body, until it absorbs. A little goes a long way, so start small and add more if you need it.

Are your products suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes. Tallow is very similar to our skin's natural oils, so it absorbs easily and is deeply moisturising, which makes it a gentle choice for sensitive skin. We also have a sensitive range for bubs made with olive oil, a tried and true skin softener. If you're prone to reactions, patch test on a small area first.
Do your products have an expiry?
Our tallow products typically last up to 12 months. To get the most out of yours, keep the lid on tight to limit air exposure, store it somewhere cool and out of direct sun, and pop it in the fridge as it nears the end of its life. You'll know when tallow has turned because the scent changes noticeably.
